Who is Lera Abova?<\/h2>\n

Lera is a German fashion model<\/a> who is most famous for being the cover star of the Guardian and Observer\u2019s twice-yearly style magazine, The Fashion.\u00a0 She has also shot covers and fashion stories for Vogue Ukraine, Vogue Paris, Vogue Germany, Vogue Russia, and Vogue Australia. She has also starred in campaigns for Joseph, Acne, and Sportmax.<\/p>\n

Her Early Life<\/h2>\n

Lera grew up in a Siberian village that is, according to her…\u00a0 \u201cso small they don\u2019t have it on the map.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 She moved to Germany when she was 13.\u00a0 At first, she couldn’t speak German and had to use an electronic translator.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat first summer was really hard. I had no one, only my skateboard.\u00a0 You should have seen how I looked.\u00a0 The other girls were so fancy\u2026\u00a0 They already had boyfriends.\u00a0 I had a pink Pok\u00e9mon T-shirt and crazy, long hair.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Abova dropped out of school right before her exams when she was around 18 or 19.\u00a0 She said she never regretted it and if she had a school education, she would never have the life she have right now.<\/p>\n

Career Journey<\/h2>\n

She was discovered for the first time at 17, by a woman who believed she could be the next Kate Moss<\/a>.\u00a0 That didn\u2019t work out, she said.\u00a0 And no one needs a second Kate Moss…<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is never going to be a second Kate Moss \u2013 and I don\u2019t want to be second someone.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Lera<\/a><\/p>\n

Later, after working in bars, she met her \u201cmother\u201d agent, Peter, who is, she says has helped her so much even on an emotional level.<\/p>\n

Lera Abova\u2019s big break came in 2016 when she shot with photographer (and 90s grunge legend) David Sims.\u00a0 She describes herself as his muse and that he\u2019s an artist.<\/p>\n

“To know that he sees something in me\u2026\u00a0 I\u2019m always really honest with him, crying in front of him, telling him he changed my life, which is very true.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Lera has also worked with S\u00f8lve Sundsb\u00f8, Colin Dodgson, and Mariano Vivanco.<\/p>\n

Facts and Trivia<\/h2>\n

Lera shaved off her hair in what she describes as \u201ca Britney Spears moment”<\/em> when she was in a bad relationship. Her boyfriend at the time also had a shaved head.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe looked as if we had just come out of prison.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

She describes herself as a character model. Before her career took off, she says, \u201cI was so fixated on not being skinny enough or tall enough, but I thank my booker because he never told me to lose weight.\u00a0 I was brainwashed by some people in the industry, who I met when I was 17\u2026\u00a0 it stays with you, in your head.\u00a0 But my mother booker told me:\u00a0 \u2018No, you are different, you have everything.\u2019\u00a0 I always call him Dad.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
