Like Terrence Malick (of The Tree of Life<\/em><\/strong> fame), I first came across Jessica Chastain<\/a> by way of Al Pacino<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There was this interview with Al Pacino<\/a> in the Smithsonian<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 yes, the Smithsonian<\/em><\/strong>, a non-movie industry publication, but then this is Al Pacino<\/a>. The interview dealt with\u00a0Salome<\/em><\/strong>, the film Pacino<\/a> reportedly worked on for six years before it was finally released in 2013. Pacino<\/a> directed and acted in the film.<\/p>\n

\"Jessica<\/a><\/p>\n

Salome<\/em><\/strong> is based on a play by Oscar Wilde, of The Picture of Dorian Gray<\/em><\/strong> fame. The play tells the story of King Herod\u2019s stepdaughter Salome, who tries to seduce John the Baptist and in failing to do so, dances for Herod so that John the Baptist may be beheaded.<\/p>\n

According to Al Pacino<\/a>, when Jessica Chastain<\/a> auditioned for the role of Salome, his reaction was to exclaim, \u201cshe\u2019s a prodigy!\u201d Some of Ms. Chastain\u2019s scenes from the film may now be viewed on youtube: yes, even clips of her gyrating to \u201cthe dance of the seven veils.\u201d Ms. Chastain\u2019s final scene, for those who haven\u2019t seen Salome<\/em><\/strong>, shows her licking blood from the severed head of John the Baptist.<\/p>\n
