It’s time for another Timeless Tuesday, and this week’s spotlight goes to a woman every bit as iconic as her homeland. Straight from Down Under: Megan Gale.
Truly, her beauty is timeless—so timeless it could outlast every iPhone model ever made. Yes, even the one Apple hasn’t announced yet. Megan may be 50 now, but she still has a glow, confidence, and elegance that make her stand out effortlessly. She’s the definition of fine wine… the very fine kind.
Who is Megan Gale
Megan Kate Gale is an Australian model, brand ambassador, fashion designer, and actress—basically a whole creative department in one person. She’s not just big in Australia either; she’s also appeared in Italian films and TV shows, because why limit your stardom to one continent?
As an actress, she played Fatma in The Water Diviner (2014) and the fierce Valkyrie in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). On top of her screen career, Megan has a long history of charity work—she became the National Ambassador for Kids Help Line in 2005 and, in 2009, was appointed the very first official National Ambassador for the Red Cross. Beauty, talent, and humanitarian energy? A full package, don’t you think?
Her Early Life
Megan Gale was born on August 7, 1975, in Perth, Western Australia, sunny, coastal, and a pretty fitting birthplace for someone destined to become a star. Her dad is English, her mom is part Māori, and Megan is the youngest of three, growing up with two older brothers to keep her on her toes.
Career Journey
Megan Gale’s modeling career took off early—she won a competition in Perth at just 18 and never really slowed down. Her big breakthrough came in 1999 when she was cast in a series of ads for the Italian telecom company Omnitel (now Vodafone Italy). Those commercials ran until 2006, turning her into a full-fledged star in Italy. She even became the Australian Tourist Commission’s “face of Australia in Italy” in 2003, which is honestly a pretty iconic job title.
Over the years, Megan has appeared on the covers of Marie Claire, Grazia, Gioia, GQ (Italian and Australian editions), Maxim Italy, and InStyle Australia. She’s also appeared in editorials for Cosmopolitan Australia and Vogue Italia. On the runway, she modeled for major Italian fashion houses like Gianfranco Ferré, Genny, and Gai Mattiolo, and graced Milan Fashion Week for Mariella Burani and Angelo Marani. She’s also a loyal supporter of Australian designers like Colette Dinnigan, Kirrily Johnston, Lisa Ho, Willow, and Alex Perry. In 2006, she even served as the fashion commentator for the Logies—because of course she did.
In January 2008, after 15 years on the runway, Megan announced her retirement and took one final walk at a David Jones winter collection show in Sydney. Her last outfit? A Wonder Woman costume originally meant for the never-released Justice League of America film—a dramatic and perfectly Gale send-off.
But retirement didn’t last long. She returned to the runway in March 2011 to close Alex Perry’s show at the Melbourne Fashion Festival. Later that year, she celebrated her 10th anniversary with David Jones, marking the longest-running fashion contract in Australian history. And as if that wasn’t enough, she became a L’Oréal Paris ambassador in August 2011, joining the ranks of Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwen Stefani. She later appeared in L’Oréal shampoo commercials across Australia, New Zealand, and Italy—because great hair clearly travels well, right?
Her Venture into Acting
Megan Gale has had quite the eclectic acting career. She appeared in the Italian films Vacanze di Natale 2000 and Body Guards—playing herself in both—before taking on the role of Vivianna in Stregati dalla luna (Bewitched by the Moon). She even made a quick cameo in the 2005 movie Stealth as Dr. Orbit’s secretary, proving she can elevate even the smallest roles with star power.
In January 2008, news broke that she’d been offered the role of Wonder Woman in George Miller’s planned Justice League of America film. Unfortunately, the project was put on hold and eventually cancelled, depriving the world of what would’ve been a very memorable Diana Prince moment.
In 2009, Megan completed filming her first Australian feature, the romantic comedy I Love You Too, where she played Italian supermodel Francesca Moretti—a role that felt almost too perfect. She later appeared as Fatma in Russell Crowe’s 2014 drama The Water Diviner, and in 2015 she joined the cast of Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, taking on the fierce role of the Valkyrie. Honestly, she looked like she belonged and reigned in the Wasteland all along.
Facts and Trivia
In 2005, Megan Gale added “TV personality” to her ever-growing résumé when she became a guest reporter for the Nine Network travel show Getaway, a gig she held from October 2005 to June 2006. She later teamed up with Mike Munro to co-host the documentary series What a Year, which premiered on the same network in October 2006. Megan also popped up on Australia’s Next Top Model—first in Cycle 4, then again in Cycle 6 during Isola’s debut fashion show.
Her charity work is just as impressive. In February 2005, she became the National Ambassador for Kids Help Line, and by 2009 she was appointed the very first official National Ambassador for the Red Cross. Beauty, talent, and philanthropy—she really said, “Why pick one?”
In 2010, Megan dipped into fashion design and launched her swimwear label Isola, which quickly found a home in major department stores like David Jones.
Her personal life has also been in the spotlight over the years. She dated comedian Andy Lee from 2006 to 2010, ending things amicably and remaining good friends. In 2011, she began a relationship with AFL player Shaun Hampson. The couple got engaged in July 2017 and now share two children—a son and a daughter.
Professionally, 2011 was a big year, too. Megan took on hosting duties for Project Runway Australia, also serving as a judge and executive producer. The new season premiered that July on Arena TV. Then in 2016, she returned to the world of modeling reality shows as a permanent judge on Australia’s Next Top Model.
