Who is Paloma Mami
Paloma Mami is a Chilean-American singer who launched her music career in 2018 and basically hasn’t stopped serving ever since. S he dropped her debut album, Sueños de Dalí, in 2021 — a dreamy start that proved she wasn’t here to play. Then in July 2025, she came back with her sophomore album, Códigos de Muñeka, officially confirming that the “Mami” in her name is, in fact, well-deserved.
Her Early Life
Paloma Castillo was born in Manhattan to two proud Doñihue natives, Jorge and Andrea — meaning she grew up with New York energy and Chilean flavor from day one. She’s of Mestiza heritage and the younger sister of Sofía, a makeup artist who probably perfected the “big sister giving glam advice” role long before it was cool.
In high school, Paloma decided she needed a stage name and, in true Gen Z fashion, snagged inspiration from Drake’s Instagram handle. Thus, Paloma Mami was born — and honestly, it suits her. After her parents split, she moved with her mom and sister to Santiago, where she kicked off her music career and started her journey toward global Mami status.
Career Journey
Paloma kicked off her rise in 2018 as a contestant on the first season of Rojo, el color del talento, Chile’s talent show where big dreams meet even bigger dramatics. She appeared twice, decided “yeah, I’ve seen enough,” and promptly dipped. Honestly? Iconic behavior.
A few months later, she independently dropped her debut single “Not Steady” — a smooth mix of dancehall, trap, soul, and R&B — complete with a music video that basically announced, “Hi, I’m the future.” By September, she was opening for Arcángel at Teatro Caupolicán, and in October she made Chilean music history by becoming the first Chilean artist to sign with Sony Music Latin. Not bad for someone who had just ghosted a TV show.
December brought her single “No Te Enamores,” followed by “Fingías” in March 2019. She kept the momentum going with “Don’t Talk About Me,” a collab with C. Tangana on “No Te Debí Besar,” and “Mami,” which would later become the lead single for her debut album.
In 2020, Paloma released “Goteo,” which Rolling Stone immediately stamped as a Latin pick of the week. She then hopped on Major Lazer’s “QueLoQue,” and followed it up with the dreamy “For Ya.” By early 2021, she’d dropped her final prerelease single “Religiosa,” warming the world up for her debut album.
On March 18, 2021, she officially delivered Sueños de Dalí, proving she could float between sounds as easily as she switches hair colors.
She then teamed up with Ricky Martin for “Qué Rico Fuera,” snagged a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, and released “Cosas De La Vida.” A casual year, really.
In 2022, she appeared on Junior H’s “Veneno,” and later joined Pailita and El Jordan 23 for “Síntomas de Soltera,” the first sneak peek of her second album. She kicked off 2023 with “Nopalatele.”
Throughout 2024, Paloma kept the hits coming with “Dosis” (with Marcianeke and ITHAN NY), features with Prince Royce and Pablito Pesadilla, and her single “Mi Kama.” Both “Dosis” and “Mi Kama” eventually became part of her sophomore album rollout.
By 2025, she was locked in: she released “Hakia” in May, followed by “Astros” (with music video) on July 10. The very next day — always dramatic — she unveiled her second album Códigos de Muñeka, which Billboard immediately highlighted as one of the best new Latin releases of the week.
Yup, folks, this here Latina hottie didn’t just enter the music scene. She speed-ran it.
Facts and Trivia
Paloma describes her sound as Latin R&B and urbano — basically a genre cocktail with a splash of pop and a shot of trap. Her musical influences read like the world’s coolest playlist: Shakira, Bad Bunny, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Amy Winehouse, Aaliyah, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday. If you’re thinking “that’s a lot of icons,” yes… and somehow she still makes it all sound like her.
In May 2025, Paloma took a quick detour from dropping hits to present at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Tokyo — because why not add “anime award presenter” to the résumé? Then on July 2, Billboard announced she had signed with Double P Management, officially leveling up her boss era.
