Justine Skye: So Full Of Soul, So Full Of Heat

Justine Skye is, apart from her singing and performing talent, truly…  how would I put it…  AWESOME!  I mean, just look at how hot she is!

She is like a goddess, don’t you think?  One that you just want to bow down in front of.  And she is not just full of soul…  She is, obviously, oozing with sexiness.  I know, I know. I’m getting repetitive, but really now, can you blame me?  I mean, with a woman like Jusine here?

Who is Justine Skye?

Justine Skye is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and actress who first made waves online, back when Tumblr was the internet’s coolest corner.  With her striking looks and soulful sound, she quickly built a fanbase, turning viral buzz into a full-blown music career.

At just 19, she signed with Atlantic Records and never looked back.  Since then, she’s dropped a string of EPs and studio albums, flexing both her vocal chops and signature style.  She’s also made her way onto screens big and small, most recently with a role on the hit series Grown-ish.  From internet It-girl to multi-hyphenate artist, Justine Skye’s glow-up has been anything but ordinary.

Her Early Life

Justine Indira Skyers was born on August 24, 1995, in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood—basically the heart of cool.  She’s the daughter of two proud Jamaicans: her mom, Nova Perry, an entertainment lawyer with both Afro-Jamaican and Indo-Jamaican roots, and her dad, Christopher Skyers, a corporate merch VP who also reps Afro-Jamaican heritage.  Oh, and if impressive family trees are your thing, her grandfather is none other than N. Nick Perry, the former U.S. ambassador to Jamaica.

Career Journey

Justine Skye kicked off her professional singing career in a pretty unique way—by performing songs inspired by the book Rules to Rock By.  But it wasn’t long before she made a name for herself with a soulful cover of Drake’s “Headlines,” which racked up over two million views on YouTube and put her on the map.

In 2012, she dropped her first mixtape, Skye High, and it lived up to its name.  The buzz from that led to her debut EP, Everyday Living, a seven-track release that caught the attention of Atlantic Records, who signed her in 2013.  Her track “Hard Work” even made it onto BET’s 106 & Park Top 10—a rite of passage in the R&B world.

She kept the momentum going with her 2015 album Emotionally Unavailable, and soon after released “Collide,” a sultry track featuring Tyga that quickly became a fan favorite.  That same year, she hit some big stages, performing at Jay-Z’s Tidal 10×20 event and walking the runway (well, performing at one) for Tommy Hilfiger in Brazil.  She also popped up in the finale of House of DVF, proving her talents weren’t just limited to music.

In 2016, Skye made a bold move—leaving Atlantic Records and signing with Roc Nation and Republic Records.  That December, she dropped the EP 8 Ounces, which earned praise for its emotional depth and smooth production.

Then came Ultraviolet, her debut studio album, released on January 18, 2018.  It featured hits like “U Don’t Know” (with Wizkid), “Back for More” (with Jeremih), and “Don’t Think About It.”  The video for that last one premiered the same day the album pre-order went live, along with another track, “Good Love.”  The album climbed to No. 16 on Billboard’s R&B Album Sales chart—a solid milestone in her journey.

Fast-forward to June 2021, and Justine dropped her third studio album Space & Time, executive produced by none other than Timbaland.  It marked a new chapter in her sound—sleek, polished, and completely her own.

Facts and Trivia

Justine Skye has always used her platform to speak up, especially when it comes to representation for brown-skinned women in entertainment—a topic she’s passionate about and vocal on.

In a 2018 interview with The Breakfast Club, she bravely opened up about experiencing domestic violence.  A few months later, on February 12, 2019, she publicly identified rapper Sheck Wes as her abuser in a tweet, even sharing a video of him climbing over her fence.  He denied the allegations, but her decision to speak out sparked an important conversation about abuse and accountability in the industry.
