Elina Svitolina: A Tennis Star Perfect For A Cover Shoot

Elina Svitolina is a tennis star who…  Oh, that beauty will totally make you look twice and wonder why she chose sports over fashion modeling.  She is just gorgeous beyond words, and it will be very hard to keep up with the game when she’s playing.

Oh, you will be a fan after this, I tell you.  And you will be crushing on her to the point where you will watch her earliest matches.  I know because I did just that.

Who is Elina Svitolina

Elina Svitolina is one of Ukraine’s most accomplished tennis stars, reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 3 in both 2017 and 2019.  Known for her consistency, speed, and defensive grit, she has collected 19 WTA singles titles — including the 2018 WTA Finals, which is basically the “best of the best” showdown.

She’s also part of one of tennis’ most charismatic power couples, married to fellow pro Gaël Monfils.  Yes, that’s a lot of athletic energy in one household.

In 2022, Svitolina stepped away from the tour to welcome her first child — pressing pause on competition for motherhood.  When she returned in 2023, she didn’t exactly ease back in.  She reached the quarterfinals at the French Open and powered into the Wimbledon semifinals in her first few tournaments back.  Casual comeback.

The momentum continued over the next few seasons, highlighted by a run to the Australian Open semifinals and a return to the world’s top 10 in 2026.

Defensive wall. Fighter. Mom. Champion.  Svitolina’s career proves you can step away, come back, and still compete at the very top — sometimes even stronger than before.

Her Early Life

Elina Svitolina was born on September 12, 1994, in Odesa, Ukraine, to parents who clearly understood competition.  Her father, Mikhaylo, was a former wrestler, and her mother, Olena, was a competitive rower. Athletic genes? Very much present.  She also has a Jewish grandmother and was named after the famous Soviet actress Elina Bystritskaya — so the name came with a little star quality from the start.

Elina has an older brother, Yulian, and like many younger siblings, she noticed he was getting plenty of attention for playing tennis.  Naturally, she decided she would pick up a racquet too — partly out of curiosity, partly out of sibling rivalry, and maybe just a little to reclaim some of her dad’s spotlight.  It worked.  She started playing at five and quickly showed she wasn’t just tagging along.

At 13, her life took a serious turn toward professional tennis. Businessman Yuriy Sapronov saw her play at one of his children’s tournaments when she was 12 and was impressed enough to invest in her development.  Soon after, Elina and her family moved to Kharkiv so she could train more intensively and pursue the sport full-time.

What started as a younger sister trying to compete for attention turned into a full-blown international career — proof that a little sibling motivation can go a very long way.

Career Journey

Elina Svitolina picked up a racquet at five years old, partly inspired by her older brother, Yulian.  What started as little-sister competition quickly turned serious.  By 15, she was already a junior Grand Slam champion, winning the 2010 French Open girls’ title and putting the tennis world on notice.

She turned professional in 2008 and steadily climbed the rankings — top 50 by 2013, top 10 by May 2017.  That 2017 season was a masterclass in consistency and confidence.  She became the first player to win three Premier 5 titles in a single year — Dubai, Rome, and Toronto — and rose to a career-high ranking of World No. 3.  Not bad for someone who once just wanted a bit of sibling spotlight.

In 2018, she captured the WTA Finals in Singapore, going undefeated in the round-robin stage.  When the pressure was highest, she stayed cool.

By 2019, she reached her first Grand Slam semifinals at Wimbledon and the US Open, proving she could hang deep into the second week of majors.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she chose not to compete at the US Open, prioritizing safety over schedule — a thoughtful pause in an otherwise relentless career.

In 2022, she stepped away for a far more joyful reason: welcoming her first child with husband Gaël Monfils.  When she returned in April 2023, she came back sharper and more aggressive, winning the Strasbourg title and soon reaching the quarterfinals at Roland Garros and the semifinals at Wimbledon.  Comeback?  More like comeback-plus.

In 2025, she added her 18th career title in Rouen, keeping her reputation for steady excellence intact.  Then in early 2026, she returned to the Top 10, lifted the Auckland trophy, and powered into the Australian Open semifinals.

From junior champ to elite contender to comeback mom with titles still rolling in, Svitolina’s career has been defined by resilience, discipline, and just enough quiet fire to keep everyone on their toes.

Facts and Trivia

Elina Svitolina has never just shown up to a tournament — she shows up styled.

She was endorsed by Nike from 2016, after earlier sponsorships with Ellesse and Lacoste.  In 2023, she made the switch to Adidas for her on-court apparel and shoes.  New kit, same intensity.

For years, she competed with Wilson racquets, particularly the Blade line.  In 2025, she partnered with Diadem Sports and began using the Axis 98 — a fresh chapter in her gear game.

Off the court, she’s part of one of tennis’ most beloved duos.  She married Gaël Monfils in July 2021 after announcing their engagement earlier that year.  While she kept her surname professionally with the ITF, she’s known to use “Elina Monfils” on social media — blending personal and professional worlds with ease.

Svitolina has also stepped confidently into the fashion spotlight. She graced the cover of Vogue Ukraine, calling the experience a celebration of self-belief and possibility.  She later appeared in a collector’s edition of L’Officiel Ukraine, reflecting on her comeback after motherhood, her charitable foundation, and her long-term ambitions.

Brand-wise, she’s worked with global names, serving as a Global Brand Ambassador for WhiteBIT and collaborating with Mercedes-Benz.  She’s also participated in high-fashion shoots and worked with premium labels like Dries Van Noten — because why not mix baseline battles with runway energy?

She has a small but meaningful tattoo of the letter “Ï” on her right shoulder — a symbol tied to Ukrainian independence and also featured in her daughter’s name.  Subtle, but powerful.

Away from tennis, she enjoys cooking and has a well-known love for fashion — especially shoes. Grand Slam semifinalist by day, sneaker enthusiast by night.

In short: champion mindset, stylish presence, and just enough personality to keep things interesting.
