Emily VanCamp: Beauty From The Great North

This beauty will somewhat remind you of Elisha Cuthbert.  Oh, and they are both from Canada.  Yup, aside from the undeniably similar chin…  They are both gorgeous beyond words, and they make me want to move up north.

Emily VanCamp is a crush of mine, to be honest.  And who wouldn’t fall for this woman’s beauty? Look at her.  She looks like she just stepped out of the shower…  Always.  So yeah, that alone earns her a spot here on our website.

Who is Emily VanCamp

Emily is a Canadian actress best known for her breakout role as Emily Thorne on ABC’s hit series Revenge (2011–2015), which brought her both acclaim and international recognition.  She later starred on Fox’s medical drama The Resident (2018–2021), showcasing her range from suspense to heartfelt drama.

Over the years, Emily has appeared in a variety of films, including Black Irish (2007), Carriers (2009), Norman (2010), The Girl in the Book (2015), and Boundaries (2016).  On TV, she’s been seen in shows like Everwood (2002–2006), Glory Days (2002), and Brothers & Sisters (2007–2010).  Fans also know her as Sharon Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), proving she can handle anything from small-town drama to superhero action.  Not to mention almost stealing Captain America from her aunt.

Her Early Life

Emily VanCamp was born on May 12, 1986, in Port Perry, Ontario.  Her dad is an animal nutritionist, and Emily’s first job was helping him deliver food to clients around town — a humble start before the spotlight found her.  She began dancing at the age of three, and by 11, she was determined to become a professional.  So determined, in fact, that she convinced her parents to let her attend a summer training program in Montreal.  A year later, at just 12, she was accepted into the École supérieure de ballet du Québec, the prestigious program of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and moved in with a French-Canadian family to pursue her dream.

Career Journey

Emily VanCamp’s acting journey began in 1998 when she visited her sister Katie on the set of Ladies Room and discovered a fascination with the craft.  She started taking Saturday acting classes, found an agent, and booked a few commercials.  Her first on-screen role came in the Canadian children’s horror anthology Are You Afraid of the Dark? in a special episode titled “The Silver Sight,” where she shared a scene with a young Elisha Cuthbert — though her character didn’t speak any lines.

Shortly after, Emily played teenage Jackie Bouvier in the Emmy-nominated CBS TV movie Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and made a guest appearance on the YTV sitcom Radio Active.  Her first theatrical film, the drama Lost and Delirious, followed in 2001, alongside roles in the miniseries Dice in 2002.

Emily’s breakthrough came at age 15 when she was cast as Sam Dolan in the WB horror-mystery series Glory Days (known in Europe as Demontown), created by Kevin Williamson of Dawson’s Creek.  Although the show was cancelled after nine episodes due to low ratings, Emily’s performance caught the attention of writer Greg Berlanti, who was struck by her talent and likened her to Katie Holmes.  He cast her in his next project, the WB drama Everwood, where she played a character navigating drugs, depression, and family struggles — a role that earned her four Teen Choice Award nominations and a Young Artist Award nod.

In 2006, Emily filmed the post-apocalyptic thriller Carriers, which wasn’t released until 2009.  Around age 20, Berlanti brought her on to ABC’s Brothers & Sisters, casting her midway through the first season.  She remained a regular for the first four seasons, returning for a few episodes in the fifth and final season to conclude her character’s story.  During this time, she also starred in the indie drama Norman (2008), earning awards from the San Diego Film Festival and the Breckenridge Festival of Film.

Emily continued to showcase her versatility with the Hallmark Hall of Fame film Beyond the Blackboard, portraying Stacey Bess, a real-life teacher.  Her career-defining role came with ABC’s Revenge (2011–2015), where she starred as Amanda Clarke/Emily Thorne.  The show made her a household name and earned her multiple Teen Choice Award nominations.

Expanding into blockbuster territory, Emily joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sharon Carter, first appearing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). She reprised the role in Captain America: Civil War (2016), the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), and the animated series What If…?

In 2016, she took on her first bilingual role in the French-Canadian indie drama Boundaries (Pays), speaking fluent French on screen.

In March 2017, Emily became the female lead of Fox’s medical drama The Resident, portraying nurse practitioner Nic Nevin.  She remained on the show for four seasons before returning for the fifth-season finale, continuing to balance television drama with her evolving film career.
