Artificial Intelligence And What It Currently Does In The Porn Industry

Of course, you’ve definitely heard about how artificial intelligence (AI) has altered or is currently influencing various industries, including financial services and healthcare.  You may not be aware of how it is affecting adult entertainment and the pornography industry.  As in other industries, AI-driven innovations can assist in improving the user experience and company, but there are also concerning ways it might be abused.   There is one thing for sure, AI Porn is the next big thing in the porn industry and it will only become more and more dominant as the technology improves.

Let’s start with the GOOD!

Sex toy experience unlike before

Another use of artificial intelligence in adult entertainment is the creation of an oral sex simulator.  VIECI developed Autoblow AI to provide men with a high-tech sex toy (the industry has previously focused on providing high-quality sex toys to women rather than men).  They describe Autoblow AI as the first technology to employ artificial intelligence to mimic human sexual techniques.

Smart toys have grown in popularity for some time. Many large European and American firms now provide technologically advanced products that can facilitate long-distance love, monitor well-being, and even bring individuals one step closer to the ultimate sci-fi fantasy: sex with robots.

Integrating artificial intelligence has advanced so much over the previous two years.  For example, the R&D of sex toy manufacturers uses countless hours of pornographic material to educate the AI algorithm on how to imitate oral sex.  They even ran the chosen scene at 50% speed so that the computer could take 30 screenshots per second and document the position of the mouth.

Svakom, one of the better-known Chinese brands, is among those venturing further into the field of teledildonics, using networked toys to create virtual sexual encounters.

One of its masturbators can sync with video to replicate the actions on screen — either with preprogrammed content via Svakom’s app, or with an AI plug-in that watches a video on approved sites in real time and mimics it.

It helps you find what you want (and probably need)

Artificial intelligence can help tag pornographic films in the same way that Netflix can propose movies based on what you’ve watched before or Amazon can recommend things based on your browsing and purchasing history.  Pornhub, xHamster, and YouPorn are all attempting to improve their artificial intelligence algorithms so that they can recommend films to their consumers more effectively.

The AI algorithms analyze thousands of films and photographs of performers in order to tag films in which those stars appear.  The site allows people to offer input to the algorithm to determine whether or not the labeling was accurate.  This user feedback enables the AI program to improve over time.

Once the system has sorted the films by performer, genre, and theme, it is anticipated that they will be tagged for other attributes that a certain user may be interested in, such as positions, locales, hair color, and so on.

And now, BAD!

Deepfakes and just nasty

Along with industry benefits, there are other ways in which artificial intelligence might be employed in adult entertainment to misrepresent or exploit the likenesses of people who did not consent to their uhm representation.

When a video surfaced in which actress Gal Gadot’s face (Wonder Woman in the most recent film version) was superimposed on a video of the woman having sex with her stepbrother, it demonstrated how easily individuals—and their likenesses—can be used without permission, as well as how someone can do or say something they never did.  While it was very easy to notice flaws that suggested it was a doctored film, it appeared plausible at first sight, demonstrating how easy and near we are to having individuals create highly convincing recordings that could destroy reputations and jobs.

This is an example of deepfakes, or pornography in which celebrities’ faces are mechanically superimposed onto bodies from pornographic videos.  Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift, and the like were all victims.  Celebrities are currently the most vulnerable to this attack since there are so many publicly available photographs and videos that AI algorithms may learn from to build increasingly realistic images.

Another coder built DeepNude, an app that uses artificial intelligence to change photographs of completely clothed women, making them appear naked.  The software sparked such uproar that the anonymous coder removed it just days after it launched.  The software was free and simple to use, putting every woman in danger of being used by these phony photographs.

But…

AI is also now used to identify and report…

DeepNude and similar programs demonstrate how easily “revenge porn” may be generated and distributed.  In response, Facebook is using artificial intelligence to identify and report non-consensually shared personal photographs.  This is a great step forward for Facebook, which previously required victims of revenge porn to report improper photographs or give intimate images to the business before content administrators could take action to delete them.

AI may detect and flag images before forwarding them to humans for additional evaluation.  The AI technology, which has been trained to recognize “nearly nude” photographs (i.e., lingerie shots) and abusive text, will be deployed on Facebook and Instagram.

Maybe we should wait a couple of years more and see how this further develops. All in all, friends, the impact of AI Porn will be more nuanced: some users will benefit, while others may be negatively impacted by it.  However, the pace of technological developments leaves little time to plan and research how to harmoniously integrate this new technology into our lives.
