Who is Kenia Os
Kenia Os is a Mexican singer and social media personality who knows a thing or two about turning online fame into a full-blown career. She first made waves on YouTube as part of a team of content creators, helping build a channel with millions of subscribers before eventually striking out on her own. In 2018, she signed with Lizos Music and released her debut single, “Por Siempre,” officially kicking off her music career. After a stint as an independent artist, she signed with Sony Music Mexico and released her debut studio album, Cambios de Luna (2022). She followed it with K23 (2023) and Pink Aura (2024), proving that her musical ambitions were no passing internet trend.
Kenia has also ventured beyond music, co-hosting the 2021 MTV MIAW Awards and appearing on television and streaming programs, including HBO Max’s Bake Off Celebrity: Mexico. Apparently, singing and building an online empire weren’t keeping her busy enough. Her growing list of accolades includes seven MTV MIAW Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, and a Heat Latin Music Award. She has also earned a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best Long Form Music Video. Not bad for someone who started out making content online—though at this point, calling her just a YouTuber would be like calling a concert a very loud meeting.
Her Early Life
Born Kenia Guadalupe Flores Osuna on July 15, 1999, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, Kenia Os grew up surrounded by the culture and influences that would help shape her artistic identity. Music was never far from home, thanks in part to her mother and maternal grandfather, who helped nurture her creative side. She also has a sister named Eloísa Os. From an early age, Kenia was drawn to theater, dancing, cameras, and performing onstage. In other words, sitting quietly in the background was never really the plan.
Before turning content creation into a career, Kenia experimented with Vine in private and looked up to Mexican internet personalities such as Yuya and Pau Tips. She eventually began uploading vlogs and makeup tutorials, and her online journey got off to a promising start: her first video reportedly attracted 10,000 views in just one day, all while she was still in high school. Not exactly a slow start!
She later joined Jukilop, a collective of content creators, before eventually branching out on her own. What began with videos and makeup tips would become the launchpad for a much bigger career—proof that sometimes a camera, a little creativity, and a willingness to hit “upload” can open some surprisingly big doors.
Career Journey
Kenia Os launched her first YouTube channel in 2015 before joining Jukilop, a group of online creators. However, her time with the collective came to an end in 2018 following disagreements over her contract. Things got even messier when a previous agreement reportedly led to the deletion of her social media accounts because they were no longer under her ownership. The fallout sparked controversy and a rivalry with other YouTubers, but the drama also brought Kenia plenty of attention. Sometimes, the internet’s favorite pastime is turning a disagreement into a full-blown saga—and Kenia found herself right in the middle of one.
Rather than letting the controversy derail her, Kenia used the moment to pursue music. In 2018, she launched her music channel, K Os, and released her first singles, “Por Siempre” and “Bonita.” Together, the tracks reportedly accumulated more than 138 million streams, giving her musical ambitions a seriously promising start. She continued releasing solo material in 2019, racking up more than 165 million plays across digital platforms. Clearly, she wasn’t planning to let a YouTube feud have the final word.
By 2020, Kenia was emerging as one of Mexico’s promising young musical talents. She released several singles, including “Cócteles,” which reportedly surpassed 75 million combined plays across digital platforms. The growing attention also earned her nominations at various awards shows, including the MTV MIAW Awards, Kids’ Choice Awards, Eliot Awards, Heat Awards, Tú Awards, Eres Awards, and Like Brasil Awards. Not a bad year for someone who had started out making videos online.
Toward the end of 2020, Kenia released her first EP, Canciones Pa’ Mi Ex, Vol. 1. The project was included among the ten best albums by female artists in Latin America that year, marking another milestone in her transition from internet personality to recording artist. And judging by the title, she clearly understood that heartbreak could be more than an emotional inconvenience—it could also make for a compelling tracklist.
In 2021, Kenia took another major step by founding her own record label, K Records, through which she began distributing her independent music. She also made her debut as an awards-show host, co-hosting the MTV MIAW Awards alongside Kali Uchis. Although she didn’t release solo singles that year, she kept busy collaborating with Mexican artists, including Leon Leiden and Ghetto Kids.
By then, Kenia had come a long way from her early YouTube days. She was building an independent music career, collaborating with fellow artists, and taking on television hosting duties. Whatever people thought of the online drama that helped put her in the spotlight, one thing was becoming increasingly clear: Kenia OS was determined to turn internet fame into something much bigger.
Facts and Trivia
Kenia Os briefly pursued a degree in marketing, but she called it quits after just two months. Apparently, the classroom wasn’t quite the right stage for her ambitions. She went on to build her own beauty empire with K OS Beauty, a makeup and beauty brand, and launched an official merchandise line for her fans. Clearly, she wasn’t interested in putting all her eggs in one career basket.
Away from business and music, Kenia has a softer side, too—she’s the proud owner of a pet dog named Octavio. And when it comes to musical success, her track “Malas Decisiones” became a global TikTok sensation, racking up hundreds of millions of streams. Not bad for a song that found its way onto people’s feeds and apparently decided it wasn’t leaving anytime soon.
