This Bollywood beauty has a serious talent for striking a pose—and making the rest of us wonder why our own photos look like accidental passport pictures. Janhvi Kapoor is undeniably gorgeous, but she also knows exactly how to work a camera.
She looks especially stunning when she embraces traditional Indian fashion, effortlessly bringing glamour to every outfit. Beauty, style, and a camera-ready pose? Honestly, that feels a little greedy.
So, let’s get to know the Bollywood star behind all those enviable looks.
Who is Janhvi Kapoor
Janhvi Kapoor is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi-language films. Born to legendary actress Sridevi and film producer Boney Kapoor, she made her acting debut in 2018 with the romantic drama Dhadak, which became a commercial success and gave her career a strong start.
Her next few theatrical releases didn’t fare as well at the box office, but Kapoor continued earning attention for her performances. She received Filmfare Award for Best Actress nominations for playing aviator Gunjan Saxena in Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020) and a woman trapped inside a freezer in Mili (2022). Because apparently ordinary movie roles were not dramatic enough.
In 2024, Kapoor made a brief appearance in the Telugu-language action drama Devara: Part 1, which went on to become the highest-grossing film of her career. She later took on a supporting role in Homebound (2025), portraying a lower-caste woman navigating social discrimination.
From a high-profile Bollywood debut to challenging roles and a major Telugu hit, Kapoor has continued pushing her career in different directions—even when the box office hasn’t always cooperated.
Her Early Life
Janhvi Kapoor was born on March 6, 1997, in Mumbai, India, into a family that practically comes with its own Bollywood directory. Her father is film producer Boney Kapoor, son of the late filmmaker Surinder Kapoor, while her mother was the celebrated actress Sridevi. She is also the niece of actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor.
Janhvi’s younger sister, Khushi Kapoor, is an actress as well. She also has two half-siblings from her father’s first marriage: actor Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. Sadly, Janhvi lost her mother on February 24, 2018, when Sridevi died from an accidental drowning in Dubai. Janhvi was just 20 years old at the time, only ten days away from her 21st birthday.
Janhvi attended Ecole Mondiale World School in Mumbai before pursuing acting more seriously. Ahead of her film debut, she trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in California, adding formal acting training to an already very Bollywood-heavy family résumé.
Career Journey
Janhvi Kapoor made her acting debut in 2018 with Shashank Khaitan’s romantic drama Dhadak, starring opposite Ishaan Khatter and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The film was a commercial success, and Kapoor picked up the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut. Not a bad way to introduce yourself to Bollywood.
Her next screen appearance came in 2020, when she starred in Zoya Akhtar’s segment of Netflix’s horror anthology Ghost Stories. She then took on the challenging title role of aviator Gunjan Saxena in Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. The film was originally intended for a theatrical release, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed those plans, sending it straight to Netflix instead.
In 2021, Kapoor showed off her comedic and horror chops in Roohi, playing a dual role opposite Rajkummar Rao. The film eventually reached theaters after multiple delays caused by the second wave of the pandemic. She followed it with Mili, a remake of the Malayalam film Helen, playing a young woman trapped inside a freezer. Because apparently being trapped in a freezer is just another day at the office when you’re building a Bollywood résumé.
Kapoor next starred opposite Varun Dhawan in Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal (2023), a romantic drama about a feuding couple who learn about World War II while traveling across Europe. The film was released digitally on Amazon Prime Video.
In 2024, Kapoor had three releases and expanded her career into Telugu cinema. She reunited with Rajkummar Rao for Dharma Productions’ sports drama Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, in which she played a woman whose husband tries to fulfill his own cricketing ambitions through her. Kapoor injured herself twice while filming the cricket sequences, dislocating her shoulder on both occasions. Dedication to the role, apparently, came with a rather literal price.
Later that year, she made a brief appearance opposite N. T. Rama Rao Jr. in Koratala Siva’s Telugu action film Devara: Part 1. The movie became the highest-grossing film of Kapoor’s career at the time, while her performance in the relatively small role received praise from The Hollywood Reporter’s Anupama Chopra, who highlighted her authenticity and ability to convey complex emotion.
Kapoor’s 2025 releases did not perform strongly commercially. In 2026, she appeared alongside Ram Charan in Buchi Babu Sana’s Telugu action film Peddi. The film also drew criticism from several commentators over what they viewed as the overly sexualized portrayal of Kapoor’s character.
From romantic dramas and biopics to horror comedies, physically demanding sports roles, and a growing presence in Telugu cinema, Kapoor has continued experimenting with different parts. Her career may not have followed a perfectly smooth path, but sitting still clearly isn’t part of the plan.
Facts and Trivia
Janhvi Kapoor has earned plenty of attention beyond the movie screen, appearing on Rediff.com’s “Best Actresses” list in both 2020 and 2022. She has also become a familiar face in the advertising world, endorsing brands including Nykaa, Drools, and Aldo. Apparently, one career wasn’t enough.
Her appeal has also landed her on The Times of India’s list of the most desirable women several times. She ranked 28th in 2018, moved up to 24th in 2019, and reached 18th in 2020. In 2020, Eastern Eye also included her in its “Dynamic Dozen for the Decade” list.
