From TikTok to hitting the Billboard Hot 100. Oh, this is the hot journey of Nessa Barret. The young, energetic beauty whose performances are a sight to behold.
Nessa is really hot and she’s got a body that will drive you crazy… Her exotic looks will also contribute to that. You know, going crazy because of… Anyway, this woman will make your evening complete and will probably energize you for tomorrow. So let’s go and read and ogle, shall we?
Who is Nessa Barrett
Nessa is an American singer-songwriter and social media star who first came onto the scene through TikTok, where she uploaded song covers as a teenager. Spoiler alert: it worked. She landed a recording deal with Warner Records and dropped her debut single, Pain, in 2020—because what’s a Gen-Z launch without a little emotional depth?
She followed up with Pretty Poison in 2021, her first EP that blended alt-pop with pop-rock vibes—think catchy hooks with a moody edge. In 2022, she leveled up again with her debut album, Young Forever. And she didn’t stop: 2023 brought the EP Hell Is a Teenage Girl (yes, that’s the title), and 2024 saw her release Aftercare, her second studio album, packed with electropop and synthpop goodness.
In short, she went from TikTok covers to touring, charting, and thriving. Not bad for someone who probably started this all in her bedroom.
Her Early Life
Janesa Jaida “Nessa” Barrett was born on August 6, 2002, and yes—she’s a Leo. She grew up in Galloway Township, New Jersey, and is proudly Puerto Rican. As a kid, Nessa often felt like the odd one out—she was the only Puerto Rican in her school and one of a few kids being raised by a single mom after her parents’ divorce. Fair to say, she got used to standing out early.
But while other kids were scribbling in coloring books, Nessa was already writing songs. In her words, she’s been doing it “since [she] could walk and talk”—so, basically since she could hold a crayon and form a sentence.
Career Journey
Nessa Barrett’s music career took off in 2019 when she started sharing videos on TikTok. It wasn’t long before Warner Records slid into her life with a recording contract—TikTok dreams do come true. In July 2020, she released her debut single, Pain, a piano ballad that let everyone know: this wasn’t your average influencer-turned-singer situation.
By October 2020, she followed up with If U Love Me, and in December she served a haunting twist on “Santa Baby” that made holiday cheer feel a little…. dangerous (in a good way).
In February 2021, she dropped La Di Die with fellow TikTok alum Jxdn, a moody pop-rock track about the downsides of fame—produced by none other than Travis Barker. They performed it live together on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April of that year, proving they could hold their own beyond Gen-Z screens.
June 2021 brought us Counting Crimes, which Nessa said was about escaping something toxic—an anthem for anyone who’s ever hit “block” and moved on. In August, she had her first Billboard Hot 100 moment with I Hope Ur Miserable Until Ur Dead, which entered at number 88. Not petty at all. That September, she dropped her debut EP, Pretty Poison, composed of seven tracks and timed to land on World Suicide Prevention Day.
Her evolution continued in 2022 with Dying on the Inside, followed by Die First in June—a heartbreaking tribute to her friend Cooper Noriega. On it, she sang about preferring to leave the world before ever losing someone she deeply loves, including her mom.
She kept the momentum going with singles like Madhouse (addressing mental health and bullying) and Tired of California, both leading into her debut album Young Forever, released in October 2022. She even launched her Young Forever Tour in early 2023.
In 2023, Nessa continued releasing bangers like Bang Bang!, American Jesus, and lie, all eventually found on her fiery EP Hell Is a Teenage Girl, dropped in July. She also released Sick of Myself with Whethan and a touching tribute to Cooper Noriega called Club Heaven.
2024 brought the single Girl in New York, plus a live version of Club Heaven. Later that year, she released her second studio album Aftercare, led by the summer track Passenger Princess. The album featured collabs like Disco (with Tommy Genesis) and Dirty Little Secret, and got a deluxe edition in February 2025 with six brand-new tracks.
Facts and Trivia
Nessa Barrett wears her influences proudly—Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey, Melanie Martinez, and The Neighbourhood all help shape her distinct sound and moody aesthetic. Think poetic lyrics, dreamy alt-pop vibes, and just the right amount of emotional angst.
But behind her artistic edge is a deeply personal story. Nessa has been brutally honest about her struggles with mental health, including depression, borderline personality disorder, and eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia. She started therapy when she was just six years old, and at 14, after a suicide attempt, she was hospitalized for the first time.
At 17, chased by dreams (and despite her parents’ initial objections), she packed her bags and ran away to Los Angeles in search of better opportunities. By 18, she was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Tragically, in 2022—already a difficult year—she lost her best friend, TikTok star Cooper Noriega, to an accidental overdose. Grief pushed Nessa into another dark spiral, and she was hospitalized again. But she also turned her pain into music, dedicating songs like Die First and Club Heaven to Noriega. Die First was originally about her mother, but the emotional impact of Cooper’s passing transformed its meaning forever.
In a candid interview with Zach Sang, Nessa shared that it was her Christian faith that helped her keep going through it all.
As for her love life, Nessa publicly came out as bisexual and has made headlines for relationships with fellow creators. She dated Josh Richards from 2019 to 2021, then had a whirlwind romance with Jxdn. Engagement rumors even swirled—but they split in May 2022.
Through the chaos and heartbreak, Nessa keeps doing what she does best: surviving, singing, and turning her truth into something that others can feel.
