Ayesha Madon

Who is Ayesha Madon

Ayesha Mason is an Australian actress, singer-songwriter, and musician who has been steadily making a name for herself in the entertainment world.  She is best known for playing Amerie Wadia in Netflix’s comedy-drama series Heartbreak High (2022–2026), a role that earned her nominations for both an AACTA Award and a Logie Award.

Not a bad résumé for someone who apparently decided that being an actress wasn’t enough and added music to the job description, too.

Her Early Life

Ayesha Madon was born on February 10, 1998, and raised in Sydney, New South Wales.  Her parents emigrated from India to Australia and, after arriving, purchased a catering company.  So, she grew up in a family where following your ambitions apparently came with a side of entrepreneurship.

Madon was raised in a Zoroastrian household but identifies as agnostic.  She attended the McDonald College before moving on to the Victorian College of the Arts, where she graduated in 2018 with a degree in musical theatre.

From Sydney to musical-theatre training, Madon was clearly preparing for a career in entertainment long before Heartbreak High came calling.

Career Journey

Ayesha Madon made her acting debut in 2021, appearing in several episodes of the sketch-comedy series The Moth Effect.  It was a modest start, but things changed quickly when she landed the role that would put her on the map.

In 2022, Madon began playing Amerie Wadia in Netflix’s comedy-drama series Heartbreak High, a reboot of the popular 1990s series of the same name.  The show earned widespread critical acclaim and went on to win an International Emmy Award, while Madon’s performance earned nominations for the AACTA Audience Choice Award for Best Actress and the Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent.  Not exactly a quiet introduction to television.

In 2023, Madon appeared as Sienna in an episode of the television series Love Me, adding another acting credit to her growing résumé.

Then came the music.  In 2024, she released the singles “Eulogy,” “Blame Me,” and “Michelle Obama.”  “Eulogy” proved particularly successful, becoming one of the five most-played songs on Australian radio station Triple J.

From sketch comedy to a Netflix breakout and then onto the radio, Madon has already managed to keep both the screen and speakers busy.

Facts and Trivia

Ayesha Madon was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) after her therapist suggested she undergo an assessment.  In July 2024, she publicly came out as bisexual. She also identifies as Parsi.

Performance clearly runs in the family.  Madon’s older sister, Ava, became a musical theatre performer, while her brother is an actor.  With that much talent under one roof, the family group chat must be quite the production.

Madon also helped reshape the character that made her famous.  Amerie Wadia in Heartbreak High was not originally written specifically for a South Asian actor, but Madon’s audition helped redefine the role and contributed to greater South Asian representation on Australian television.

Before acting and music took over, Madon had what she jokingly described as a “secret past life” as a Scout.  Apparently, badges and campouts were just early training for show business.

As a child, she also played soccer and briefly dreamed of becoming a professional athlete for Australia’s national women’s team, the Matildas.  She eventually traded the football pitch for the stage and screen—but at least the athletic ambitions explain why she was never destined for a particularly boring résumé.
