Who is Lena Gercke?
Lena is a German fashion model and television host. After rising to fame as the Cycle 1 champion of Germany’s Next Top Model, she hosted several cycles of both Austria’s Next Top Model and Das Supertalent.
Her Germany’s Next Top Model win was accompanied by a contract with the Paris-based IMG Models agency and a Cosmopolitan-Germany cover shoot. She has also walked several runways across Europe and has also been a part of the New York Fashion Week 2010.
Her Early Life
Lena Johanna Gercke was born on February 29, 1988, in Marburg, Germany. She grew up, however, in Cloppenburg where she attended the Liebfrauenschule Cloppenburg (ULF), a Roman Catholic gymnasium, completing her abitur in 2007. She is a chess player and was raised with her two half-sisters.
Career
Lena began her modeling career after booking a Burger King commercial back in 2004. At the beginning of 2006, she attended a casting call for Germany’s Next Topmodel hosted by Heidi Klum. Upon winning the competition, she received an advertising contract with the fashion label OuiSet, a modeling contract with IMG Models in Paris, the cover shoot for the June 2006 issue of German Cosmopolitan, and an advertising contract with Microsoft for Windows Live. Lena also appeared in magazines such as the American issues of Cosmopolitan, Sports Week, Glamour, and on the cover of French Votre Beauté. She was featured in print campaigns of H&M, Mexx, and Geox. In 2010 she walked on New York Fashion Week for the Spring season of Custo Barcelona.
From 2009 to 2012, she hosted the Austrian version of “Austria’s Got Talent”. Subsequently, she was a judge alongside Dieter Bohlen on the German show “Das Supertalent”. Lena is currently hosting the 5th season of “The Voice of Germany”. In 2015, she started her own show, “Prankenstein”, a show that involved pranks behind hid cameras.
Facts and Trivia
From 2006 to 2009, Lena was dating a singer named Jay Khan. She has also been in a relationship with ace footballer Samir Khadira. Samir and Lena have appeared in a couple of sassy photoshoots together and in February 2012, a Tunisian publisher was arrested for printing intimate pictures of the couple. The power couple ended their 4- year relationship in 2015.
In 2012, the model was told to tone down her dressing style at the EURO 2012 semi-final between Italy and Germany.
