Elizabeth Shaila Koshy was born in 1996 (March 31st), in Houston, Texas. Her parents were very supportive of her social media career (sometimes suggesting topics and content) but were also very particular about her studies. Despite having achieved success at a young age, Liza remains down to earth and she refrains from posting anything too personal.
Liza attended a bi-language educational and cultural program from kindergarten to fifth grade. In 2014, Liza enrolled at the University of Houston after graduating from Lamar High School and began studying business marketing. She dropped out of college in the year after and relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the media.
Career Journey
Liza began posting short comedic videos on the Vine platform under the alias “Lizzza” in 2013. When Vine was shut down in 2017, she had 7 million followers. Liza had made a name for himself on YouTube by 2016, becoming “the fastest YouTube personality to reach 10 million subscribers.”
In 2016, Liza played Violet Adams in the Hulu original horror series Freakish. The following year, she returned to the show for its second season. Also in 2016, she starred as Aday Walker in the horror-comedy feature film Boo! A Madea Halloween, and Jingle Ballin’, a YouTube Premium series in which she starred as herself. Liza also appeared as The Explorer in the YouTube Premium mystery-reality series Escape the Night in 2017.
Liza hosted the live preshow for the 2017 Golden Globes Awards, which drew 2.7 million live viewers on Twitter, setting a new record for the medium. She also hosted Nigel Lythgoe’s Every Single Step and was named “the only social entertainer chosen to promote the 2016 MTV Movie Awards.”
