Who is Eva Herzigová?

Eva is a Czech actress and fashion model. Her career took a significant turn when she became the face of the Wonderbra campaign in 1994.  Eva has collaborated with leading designers and fashion houses such as Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Versace, Louis Vuitton, and many others, and has appeared on the covers of numerous prestigious fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and many others.

Eva’s career also includes a successful transition to film, with appearances in seven feature-length films and one short film to her credit.

Her Early Life

Eva Herzigova was born in Litvnov, Czechoslovakia, on March 10, 1973.  She grew up with two other siblings, all of whom were very athletic as children.  Eva participated in a variety of sports, including gymnastics, basketball, track, and cross-country skiing.  Her older sister, she thought, had a better chance of becoming a model.  When her sister declined to compete in a modeling competition in Prague in 1989, Eva decided to enter.  She had no idea what to expect when she walked in without any modeling experience.  She won the competition in Prague and moved to Paris, where she launched a successful career.

Eva began representing ‘Guess?’ in 1992.’ jeans in print advertisements, and she stayed with them for the next two years.  In the same year, she co-starred in her first film, the UK TV movie ‘Inferno,’ with several other supermodels.

Her time on ‘Guess?’ accelerated her modeling career, and she was inundated with assignments and endorsements.  From 1995 to 1998, she modeled for Maybelline Cosmetics in television and print advertisements.  She also appeared in two films during this time, ‘Guardian Angel’ and ‘L’amico del Cuore’.

Her biggest modeling campaign began in 1996.  For two years, she was chosen to represent ‘Wonderbra’ in print advertisements.

Eva appeared in three films from 2000 to 2004.  She starred in the film Just for the Time Being as the female lead.  She was also in the feature film “Modigliani” and the short film “Twisted Tango.”

In 2008, ‘L’Oreal Cosmetics’ signed the model for television commercials.  Eva, along with other supermodels, appeared in television commercials for Dolce &Gabbana Women’s Fragrance the following year.

Additional film roles followed in 2013, with ‘Cha ChaCha’ and ‘Storyteller’ a year later.  She played the female lead in both films.

Facts and Trivia

Eva Herzigova was linked to Leonardo DiCaprio in 1998, but the relationship was never confirmed.  In 1996, she married Bon Jovi’s drummer Tico Torres but divorced after a couple of years.

In 2000, she won the ‘Grand Jury Prize’ for ‘Best Actress’ at the ‘New York International Independent Film & Video Festival’.   This award was in recognition of her work in ‘Just for the Time Being’.

She began dating Italian businessman Gregorio Marsiaj in 2002.  The couple had three sons.

Eva sued ‘La Senza’ for breach of contract in 2003 when the said company refused to pay her for a catalog photo shoot.  Both parties reached an out-of-court settlement.

Eva not only starred in the 2004 short film ‘Twisted Tango,’ but she also produced and designed the costumes.  Her involvement in the film industry grew as a result of this.

2006 brought her further attention when she was chosen to represent Venus at the ‘Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony’.  The ‘Winter Olympics’ were held in Italy, the home of her partner Gregorio Marsiaj, and celebrated the country’s rich culture and history.

The ‘Wonderbra’ campaign brought her international attention, opening up new opportunities for her career.  The billboard ad was named the ‘Most Iconic Outdoor’ ad by the ‘Outdoor Media Centre’ in 2011.

Eva has chosen a more simple and environmentally friendly way of life.  She saw Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ while pregnant with her first son, which increased her awareness of the environment.

Stanley Kubrick first offered Eva the role of Mandy in Eyes Wide Shut (1999), but she declined because there were too many naked scenes and Kubrick refused to change them.
