The Overly Beautiful Gracie Abrams

Gracie Abrams kinda’ looks like a young Demi Moore, don’t you think?  Okay, okay, maybe just a little…  But she’s also giving off the same hot vibes as ole Demi did in her early 20s.

But enough about the comparison.  I mean, yeah, they share similarities, but Gracie here is in a league of her own.  And to us, she’s like she won the genetics (and talent) lottery.  So let’s get to know this babe a little more.

Who is Gracie Abrams

Gracie Abrams is an American singer-songwriter who has built a devoted following with her deeply personal lyrics and intimate blend of bedroom pop and indie folk.  Known for turning heartbreak, overthinking, and late-night feelings into catchy songs, she first broke through with her debut EP Minor in 2020 and quickly established herself as one of pop’s most compelling young voices.

Her rise continued with the release of her debut album, Good Riddance (2023), which earned widespread praise and helped secure a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.  She followed it up with The Secret of Us, proving that writing songs about complicated emotions can be a pretty effective career strategy.

Along the way, Abrams introduced her music to massive audiences as an opening act on Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour Tour in 2022 and Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour from 2023 to 2024.  Going from intimate bedroom-pop confessionals to performing in front of packed arenas is quite the leap—but Gracie made it look surprisingly effortless.

Her Early Life

Gracie Madigan Abrams was born on September 7, 1999, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of the city. Creativity ran in the family: her father is filmmaker J.J. Abrams, her mother is film and television producer Katie McGrath, and her grandparents, Gerald W. Abrams and Carol Ann Abrams, were producers as well. In other words, storytelling was practically the family business.  Gracie also grew up alongside her two brothers in a household where creative careers probably sounded less like a dream and more like a normal dinner-table topic.

Despite being surrounded by Hollywood, Gracie found her own creative outlet early on through music.  She started writing songs at just eight years old, long before most kids had figured out their favorite school subject.  While others were filling notebooks with homework, Gracie was filling hers with lyrics and ideas that would eventually shape her career.

She attended The Archer School for Girls in West Los Angeles and graduated in 2018.  After high school, she enrolled at Barnard College in New York City to study international relations. But after her first year, music proved impossible to ignore.  Faced with a choice between lecture halls and recording studios, Gracie decided to press pause on college and focus on songwriting full-time—a decision that, judging by the sold-out tours and Grammy recognition that followed, worked out pretty well.

Career Journey

Gracie Abrams has been turning her thoughts into songs for most of her life.  She began writing music at the age of eight, transforming a daily journaling habit into what would eventually become a successful songwriting career.  As a teenager, she started building an audience by uploading covers to SoundCloud and sharing singing clips on Instagram, giving early fans a glimpse of the emotional storytelling that would later define her music.

After graduating from The Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles, Gracie headed to New York City to study international relations at Barnard College. But while diplomacy may have been interesting, songwriting proved impossible to resist.  After her freshman year, she put college on hold and committed to music full-time—a decision that quickly paid off.

Signed to Interscope Records, Gracie released her debut single, Mean It, in 2019 before introducing listeners to her first EP, minor (2020).  The project featured fan favorites such as i miss you, i’m sorry and established her reputation as a songwriter who could turn heartbreak, anxiety, and overthinking into surprisingly addictive listening.  Her debut album, Good Riddance (2023), further cemented her status as one of indie pop’s most compelling voices, earning praise for its raw, vulnerable songwriting and understated sound.

Her career reached another level when she joined Taylor Swift’s blockbuster Eras Tour as an opening act, performing in front of stadium-sized crowds around the world.  The exposure introduced her music to millions of new listeners and helped earn her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. She followed that success with her second studio album, The Secret of Us (2024), which featured hit singles such as Close to You.  The album also saw her collaborating extensively with Taylor Swift and acclaimed producer Aaron Dessner, a trio seemingly determined to keep fans emotionally devastated in the most beautiful way possible.

In 2025, Gracie embarked on The Secret of Us Tour, which kicked off in Madrid on February 8 and was scheduled to conclude in Mexico City on August 27.  Along the way, she delighted fans by performing two unreleased songs, Out of Nowhere and Crazy Girl, during appearances at Glastonbury Festival and BST Hyde Park. Few things excite a crowd more than hearing brand-new music before anyone else—and Gracie knew exactly how to keep fans guessing.

The following year brought even more milestones. In January 2026, it was announced that Gracie would make her acting debut in the A24 film Please, written and directed by Halina Reijn.  Represented by Creative Artists Agency, she also prepared for her next musical chapter with the release of her third studio album, Daughter from Hell, scheduled for July 17, 2026.  The album’s lead single, Hit the Wall, arrived in May, and later that month she unveiled plans for The Look at My Life Tour, set to run from December 2026 through March 2027.  Between charting songs, sold-out tours, and a move into acting, Gracie has made it clear that she has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

Activism and Advocacies

Gracie Abrams has never been shy about connecting her music to her personal beliefs. In a 2020 interview, she explained that separating the two simply isn’t possible for her, saying, “I can’t separate my music from my opinions … it’s a whole that reflects my way of thinking. You shouldn’t be afraid to talk about what you believe in.”  For Abrams, songwriting has always been more than storytelling—it’s also a reflection of the values that shape her worldview.

In 2022, she joined a growing chorus of artists speaking out after a leaked draft opinion revealed that the U.S. Supreme Court was preparing to overturn the abortion protections established by Roe v. Wade.  Alongside more than 160 musicians—including Olivia Rodrigo, Lorde, Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, Halsey, Clairo, and Phoebe Bridgers—Abrams signed a full-page advertisement in The New York Times condemning the planned decision.  Later that year, she released a limited-edition T-shirt with all proceeds benefiting the National Network of Abortion Funds.  While acknowledging that the effort represented only a small contribution to a much larger issue, Abrams said she hoped to use her platform to amplify the voices of experts working on the front lines.

As global events continued to spark debate, Abrams remained vocal about humanitarian concerns.  In 2023, following the outbreak of the Gaza war, she joined Artists4Ceasefire, a coalition of artists calling for a ceasefire.  She has also spoken publicly about the starvation of Palestinian children, using her platform to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis.

Her activism extended into electoral politics during the 2024 U.S. presidential election.  Abrams endorsed Kamala Harris and later brought her music to the campaign trail, performing at a Harris rally in Madison, Wisconsin, on October 30, 2024.  For an artist whose songs often explore deeply personal emotions, it was another example of her willingness to step beyond the recording studio and engage with issues she considers important.

Facts and Trivia

Gracie Abrams’ music reflects a remarkably diverse set of influences, drawing inspiration from artists ranging from Taylor Swift, Joni Mitchell, and Simon & Garfunkel to Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Phoebe Bridgers, and Bon Iver.  Her playlists likely contain enough emotional depth to power an entire therapy session.  Critics have variously described her sound as pop, bedroom pop, folk-pop, indie pop, and indie folk, though the common thread is her gift for turning life’s messiest feelings into songs that listeners can’t stop replaying.

Some of her biggest career milestones have come alongside artists she once admired from afar. Abrams joined Olivia Rodrigo on the Sour Tour before later sharing stages around the world as an opening act on Taylor Swift‘s record-breaking Eras Tour.  For a songwriter who grew up inspired by Swift’s music, it was a classic full-circle moment—just on a much larger scale, complete with stadium crowds and friendship bracelets.

Beyond music, Abrams has become an increasingly sought-after figure in the fashion world. In 2022, she was selected as one of the faces of Pandora’s ME campaign and also appeared in Tumi’s Built for the Journey campaign.  Her relationship with Chanel has been particularly notable. After becoming an ambassador for the luxury house’s Coco Crush jewelry collection in 2024, she was elevated in January 2026 as the new face of Coco Crush fine jewelry.  The global campaign debuted at the iconic Chateau Marmont and positioned Abrams alongside international stars such as Blackpink’s Jennie Kim, further cementing her growing influence beyond the music industry.

While much of the spotlight remains focused on her career, Abrams’ personal life has occasionally attracted attention as well.  She was in a long-term relationship with songwriter and producer Blake Slatkin from 2017 to 2022.  In March 2025, she made headlines with the purchase of a $5.5 million penthouse in New York City’s Greenwich Village—a sign that writing songs about heartbreak can, in fact, be quite profitable.  Since 2024, she has been in a relationship with Irish actor Paul Mescal, creating one of entertainment’s most closely watched creative power couples.
